The Black Prism’s physical copy!

I am delighted to announce the release today of a project I had so much fun working on: The Black Prism - Original Book Score!

A few months ago, my friend and Black Piper producer Michael Bahnmiller reached out and asked me if I wanted to join the Black Piper team to compose music—not for a film this time—but for a book series! Through this project, I was introduced to the incredible work of author Brent Weeks, who came up here with such an original fantasy story: where magic’s essence comes from the color spectrum.

Set in a 15th century Mediterranean inspired world, each magic sensitive people draw their power from a specific color that they are sensitive to. With each color its own specific set of powers. And some “drafters” are sometimes sensitive to more than one color, all the way to the Holy Prism, the chosen one, the one that can see and draft magic from all colors on the spectrum.

Intriguing huh? I cannot recommend you enough to go read this amazing book series. And now we have composed music for the first volume: The Black Prism. I was responsible to compose two themes on the album: Across The Threshold and Let’s go Kill us a King.

An AI generated rendition of Charles-Henri Avelange has a “green drafter”

In addition of composing themes for this project, I was also in charge of mixing and mastering the entire album, which was in itself another layer on that cake. It was so cool to get into the process of my fellow Black Piper composers and sculpt the overall sonic textures of their pieces.

The album is out on all the streaming platforms and physical copies can the acquired via The Black Piper website
